Harmony:

Harmony stays firmly in D Major but there are several jazzy chords. Note, for instance, the closing progression: G#m7 > E7 > Gmaj7 > D (bv > V/V > IV > I), derived (in part) from the plagal cadence, and even with a little Beatles-esque touch - compare with vi > V/V > IV > I that closes Yesterday, for instance.
