John's most used:

- 1967 model: His main in the early days. For 'Opera' sessions he changed the colour to natural.

- 1968 model: His main throughout most of his career. First sunburst, then natural, then black.

- Fretless: Played live during Melancholy Blues and '39.

- 1955 model: Used in 'Jazz' American tour, then occasionally both live and in the studio.

- Elite 1: Loads of times in the studio from 'The Works' onwards, and a couple of times live (e.g. Knebworth Park).
