Bechstein
Debauchery (taking its name from the liner notes
in the A Night at the Opera
album) is a project started in 2003 about compiling a detailed
and very much in-depth Queen discography. Sometimes official
information's very short, incomplete or incorrect, or it can
be broadened, so that's why this web exists. As any academic
work, it may have mistakes and it things that can be rendered
wrong in the future (remember there was a time when scientists
thought the earth was flat).
All
of the information found here has been carefully checked and
verified as much as possible. It still does NOT
mean it's a 100% error-proof research (even the people who were
there make mistakes about what happened) but it does ensure
that it's way more than mere speculation and guessing. Not being
able to prove everything is not the same as
not being able to prove anything.
If
you want to copy, quote, paraphrase, elaborate on, agree with,
refute or condemn any part of this text in a public or private
medium and acknowledge me, thank you very much for your
consideration and inclusion. If you want to copy, quote, paraphrase,
elaborate on, agree with, refute or condemn any part of this
text in a public or private medium without acknowledging
me, there’s nothing I can do to prevent it and I’ll
probably never notice anyway.
Enjoy!

15th June 2010: Corrections here and there.
New articles and sections will come but please be patient.
|
Tuesday
8th June 2010: More mistakes corrected and a
brand new analysis: One Year of
Love. Next one will be Machines
(Back to Humans).
|
Sunday
6th June 2010: Many small mistakes have been
corrected and an in-depth analysis on I
Want It All was added. Please drop me a line
if you're a vintage synth expert and can help me out with identifying
the brands, models and presets used on that song (or any other
for that matter).

Thursday
3rd June 2010: A big mistake on my These
Are the Days of Our Lives article was corrected
- Roger did play acoustic drums (they weren't programmed). Next

- One Year of Love,
written by John Deacon for A Kind
of Magic.
- Machines, written
by Roger Taylor and Brian May for The
Works.
- Cool Cat, written
by Freddie Mercury and John Deacon for Hot
Space.
- The Ring, written
by Freddie Mercury and John Deacon for Flash
Gordon.
- Sail Away Sweet Sister,
written by Brian May for The Game.
- Fat Bottomed Girls,
written by Brian May for Jazz.
- Spread Your Wings,
written by John Deacon for News
of the World.
- Drowse, written
by Roger Taylor for A Day at the
Races.
- Love of My Life,
written by Freddie Mercury for A
Night at the Opera.
- In the Lap of the Gods,
written by Freddie Mercury for Sheer
Heart Attack.
- White Queen,
written by Brian May for Queen
II.

After
I finish writing in-depth articles about those, the tentative

I do want to write analyses for the solo albums (and
maybe The Cross), but info's way harder to gather and verify.
Still, I expect some doubts to be cleared sooner or later. For
a (self-proclaimed) songwriting scholar, it's useful to see
what they did without each other. I'm also interested in documenting
places, dates and equipment used in collaborations but all of
that will come later. Just hang on... in there.
-
Speaking of which, I'm also keen on adding B-Sides and non-album
tracks ASAP, just be patient, please. But no, I'm not planning
to add info on demos, at least not for the moment. Sources are
hardly ever reliable, and I don't want to risk the website to
become too gossip-driven, especially regarding who wrote what.
-
As for The Cosmos Rocks,
if you want to read about that album you can do it in some of
the excellent websites out there like Queenpedia
or Ultimatequeen .
But no, it will not be included here. I've got absolutely nothing
against Paul Rodgers (he's a phenomenal singer) but as you can
see in the banner, this website only covers the 1971-1991 period.
-
No-One But You won't
be included either, for the same reason. As I told a poster
on QZ, an encyclopaedia on American presidents in the 1850-1900
era doesn't need to include Clinton, and it doesn't mean it's
denying his existence or calling him a bad person. Same here:
Bechstein Debauchery
covers 1971-1991 (with Made in
Heaven making it as a lot of it was done between
1980 and 1991 including all of the songwriting), and it hasn't
got to include anything else (e.g. Say
It's Not True, The Call,
whatever they recorded with Dave Stewart some years ago), which
doesn't mean at all that I'm denying
their existence or saying they're 'crap'.
