Brian got the opening track of the album more often than the others ('I', 'II', 'Sheer', 'Races', 'News', 'Flash', 'Magic'). Tie Your Mother Down was famous as a live number, and remains a very well-known song.

Brian wrote it in Tenerife. He wanted to change the title but Freddie considered it was good as it was.
