FREDDIE MERCURY As Producer
Although Freddie wasn't too much into technical physical aspects (such as mic brands, leads, consoles and so on), he was a very good producer, often supervising that side of the music (especially during 'A Night at the Opera'), and being the first Queen member to do such job for another artist. Mercury's approach favoured human instruments (e.g. guitar and piano), although he eventually became involved in producing electronic recordings as well. Influenced by Jimi Hendrix, he was particularly fond of stereo effects, as reflected in some of his arrangements (e.g. Roger's A Kind of Magic). Brian commented that Chinese Torture and Under Pressure were mixed by Freddie. |
