BRIAN HAROLD MAY As Lead Singer
Brian's more recognised as guitarist, composer, arranger and backing singer, but he's a very good lead vocalist as well. Besides his broad range (around two octaves) and his ability to develop different kinds of performances (compare Love Token with Too Much Love Will Kill You), May has made some - not very successful - attempts at finding prestige in this department. He's got a great voice (and it got even better after Queen ended), but it's still somewhat weak compared to others', and all in all it seems that he's at his best being a Ronson rather than a Bowie (or a Richards instead of a Jagger, a Townshend instead of a Daltrey, a Page instead of a Plant). In the Queen catalogue you can find Brian being the lead singer on the following: - Keep Yourself Alive (one line) - Someday One Day - She Makes Me - '39 - Good Company - Long Away - All Dead All Dead - Sleeping On the Sidewalk - Fat Bottomed Girls (intro and choruses) - Leaving Home Ain't Easy - Lost Opportunity - Sail Away Sweet Sister (except the middle-eight) - Flash's Theme (two lines) - Las Palabras de Amor (one line plus ad-libs) - Who Wants to Live Forever (parts) - I Want It All (middle-eight) - Show Must Go On (finale) - Mother Love (last part) |
